Removal Procedure

    Caution: Avoid taking the following actions when you service wheel brake parts:

       • Do not grind brake linings.
       • Do not sand brake linings.
       • Do not clean wheel brake parts with a dry brush or with compressed air.
    Some models or aftermarket brake parts may contain asbestos fibers which can become airborne in dust. Breathing dust with asbestos fibers may cause serious bodily harm. Use a water-dampened cloth in order to remove any dust on brake parts. Equipment is available commercially in order to perform this washing function. These wet methods prevent fibers from becoming airborne.

  1. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 470554  Size: SH
  3. Remove the park brake shoe lever (1) and the retainer (3) from the brake shoe (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 470554  Size: SH

    Important: Apply Lubriplate® Lubricant, GM P/N 1050109 (Canadian P/N 5264008), or the equivalent white lithium grease, to all of the brake component metal contact points (where the brake shoe metal contacts the backing plate, the wheel cylinder, the adjustment strut, etc.) prior to installation.

  1. Install the park brake shoe lever (1) to the brake shoe (2). Secure with the retainer (3).
  2. Install the brake shoes with the park brake shoe lever to the vehicle. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
