Inspection Procedure
- Pull the park brake lever (2)
with approximately 20 kg (40 lbs) of force.
- Count the number of clicks or ratchet notches.
Specification
• | The minimum number of clicks is 5. |
• | The maximum number of clicks is 7. |
- Verify that the park brake prevents the vehicle from moving.
- Complete the Adjustment Procedure if the park brake lever travel
is not in the specification.

Effort Gage
- Press the brake pedal 3 times with 30 kg (66 lbs)
of force using the J 28662
.
- Pull the park brake lever (2)
several times with approximately 20 kg (40 lbs) of force.
- Release the park brake.
- Remove the 4 screws (1,3,4,6),
the 2 clips (2,5), and lift up the console.
- Inspect the park brake lever notches. If the notches are damaged
or worn, replace the park brake lever. Refer to
Park Brake Lever Assembly Replacement
.
- If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, disconnect the power
normal switch connector.
- If the vehicle has an auxiliary power outlet, disconnect the auxiliary
power outlet connector.
- Disconnect the park brake
switch connector (10).
- Loosen or tighten the
park brake cable lock nut (1) in order to adjust the park brake lever
travel.
- Inspect the park brake
lever (2) travel. Refer to the Inspection Procedure above.
- If the park brake lever travel is not in the specification, adjust
the drum brakes. Refer to
Drum Brake Adjustment
in Drum Brakes.
- If a park brake cable is damaged, replace the park brake cable.

- Connect the park brake
switch connector (10).
- Position the console over the shift knob.
- If the vehicle has an auxiliary power outlet, connect the auxiliary
power outlet connector.
- If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, connect the power
normal switch connector.
- Install the console. Install
the 4 screws (1,3,4,6) and the 2 clips (2,5).
