Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the front washer pump inoperative and assumes that the front wipers operate normally.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Pull the washer switch to the wash position.

Do the washers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the front washer pump. Refer to Washer Pump Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test light between cavity 2 of the front washer pump connector and a good ground.
  4. Pull and hold the wiper/washer switch to the wash position.

Does the test light illuminate when the wiper/washer switch is pulled to the wash position?

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Test for a high resistance or an open condition in the washer pump control circuit between the wiper/washer switch connector and the front washer pump connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the washer pump ground circuit for a high resistance or an open condition. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the washer pump. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the front washers in order to verify the repair.
