Did you review the Seat Belt System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Close the drivers door.
  2. Do not fasten the drivers seat belt.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. The seat belt warning alarm chimes approximately two times per second for approximately six seconds.
  5. The seat belt indicator is illuminated.
  6. The seat belt indicator goes out when the seat belt is fastened.

Does the seat belt warning system operate properly?

Are both seat belt indicator and the seat belt chime inoperative?

Go to Step 5

Is the seat belt indicator inoperative?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the seat belt switch connector.
  2. Test the operation of the seat belt switch. The switch should be open when the seat belt is buckled and closed when the seat belt is not buckled.

Test the seat belt indicator circuit for a high resistance or for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for a poor connection at the harness connector of the seat belt switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in - Wiring Systems.
