Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: The following conditions both occur:

    • The video display does not turn on. (The status indicator is off and the screen backlighting is off.)
    • The video cassette player (VCP) does not turn on. (The power indicator on the VCP PWR button is off.)

Did you perform Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System ?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Test the operation of the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) module with the rear video system off.
  3. Lower the screen of the video display. The video display backlighting turns on (no image) and the status indicator on the video display turns on red solid (not flashing).
  4. Press the PWR button on the video cassette player (VCP). The red indicator on the VCP PWR button turns on.

Does the system operate normally?

Test the ground circuit of the auxiliary module for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the battery positive voltage circuit for an open or short to ground at the following locations:

    • At the input circuit to the auxiliary module.
    • Between the auxiliary module and the video display.

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Disconnect the video display connector C1.
  2. Measure the voltage of the battery positive voltage circuit at the video display connector C1.

Is the voltage within the range shown?

9.5V to 13.5V

  1. Disconnect the video display connector C3.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.
  3. Turn ON the radio.
  4. Measure the voltage of the radio on signal circuit at the harness side of the video display connector C3.

Is the voltage within the range shown?

9.5V to 13.5V

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors C1 and C2 of the auxiliary module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the video display. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the auxiliary module. Refer to Audio/Video Interface Module Replacement .
