Pad and Garnish Clip Remover
Removal Procedure
- Open the lift gate.
- Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to
Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement
.
- Use the J 38778
in order to remove the push-in retainers
from the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
- Remove the screws at the right and left wheel well from the rear
bumper fascia.
- Remove the palnut from the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
- Disconnect the electrical connector to the rear parking assist
if equipped.
- Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.
- If you are replacing the rear bumper fascia.
• | Remove the rear parking assist object sensor wiring harness from
the rear parking assist object sensors if equipped. |
Installation Procedure
- If you are replacing the rear bumper fascia, perform the following:
• | Install the rear parking assist object sensor wiring harness to
the rear parking assist object sensors if equipped. |
- Align the rear bumper
fascia to the rear bumper fascia outer support.
- Align the rear bumper
fascia outer retainer to the body.
- Install the palnut to
the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the palnut to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the screws at the right and left wheel well to the rear
bumper fascia.
Tighten
Tighten the rear bumper fascia wheel well screws to 3 N·m
(26 lb in).
- Install the push-in retainers to the upper and lower rear bumper
fascia.
- Connect the electrical connector to the rear parking assist if
equipped.
- Install the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to
Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement
.
- Close the lift gate.
Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Pontiac
Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim Pad and
Garnish Clip Remover
Removal Procedure
- Open the lift gate.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove both of the rear tire and wheels. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Use the J 38778
in order to remove the push-in retainers from
the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
- Remove the screws at the right and left wheel well from the rear
bumper fascia.
- Remove the palnut from the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
- Partially remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle in order
to access the rear object sensor electrical connectors, if equipped.
- Disconnect rear parking assist electrical connectors, if equipped.
- Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.
- Remove the rear bumper
fascia reflectors. Refer to
Rear Bumper Fascia Reflector Replacement
.
- Remove the rear object sensors from the rear bumper fascia, if
equipped. Refer to
Rear Object Sensor Replacement
in Rear Parking Assist.
Installation Procedure
- Install the rear object
sensors to the rear bumper fascia, if equipped. Refer to
Rear Object Sensor Replacement
in Rear Parking Assist.
- Partially install the rear bumper fascia leaving access to rear
object sensor electrical connectors, if equipped.
- Connect rear object sensor electrical connectors, if equipped.
- Align the rear bumper fascia to the rear bumper fascia outer support.
- Align the rear bumper
fascia outer retainer to the body.
- Install the palnut to the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
Tighten
Tighten the rear bumper fascia outer retainer palnut to 2 N·m
(18 lb in).
- Install the push-in retainers
to the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
- Install the screws at the right and left wheel well to the rear
bumper fascia.
Tighten
Tighten the rear bumper fascia wheel well screws to 3 N·m
(26 lb in).
- Install the rear bumper
fascia reflectors. Refer to
Rear Bumper Fascia Reflector Replacement
.
- Install both of the rear tire and wheels. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Close the lift gate.
