Disassembly Procedure


    Object Number: 1265713  Size: SH
  1. Remove the caliper assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement .
  2. Remove the guide pin bolts that connect the caliper piston housing to the retaining frame.

  3. Object Number: 1289996  Size: SH
  4. Remove the guide pins and the rubber boots.
  5. Discard the rubber boots.
  6. Remove the front pad brake set, including the pad springs, from the caliper. Refer to Front Disc Brake Pads Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 1265702  Size: SH
  8. Insert a cloth or a piece of hardwood into the caliper housing.
  9. Caution: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air in order to prevent eye injury.

    Caution: Do not place fingers in front of the caliper piston(s) in an attempt to catch or protect it when applying compressed air. The piston(s) can fly out with force and could result in serious bodily injury.

    Notice: Use just enough air pressure to ease the piston out of the bore. You can damage a blown-out piston even with the padding.

  10. Apply compressed air to the caliper brake hose connector hole in order to remove the piston from the caliper.

  12. Remove and discard the outer seal.

  13. Object Number: 1265703  Size: SH
  14. Remove and discard the inner seal from the caliper piston bore.

  15. Object Number: 1265716  Size: SH
  16. Remove the bleeder valve protector and the bleeder valve.

Inspection Procedure


    Object Number: 1290030  Size: SH
  1. Clean all of the parts in denatured alcohol or brake fluid.
  2. Dry the parts with unlubricated compressed air and blow out all of the passages in the housing and the bleeder valve.
  3. Important: Do not remove material from the piston or the caliper bore.

  4. Inspect the piston and the caliper for scoring, nicks, and corrosion. Replace the components if necessary.
  5. Inspect the caliper bleeder valve. Replace the bleeder valve if necessary.

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 1290032  Size: SH
  1. Lubricate a NEW inner seal with brake fluid.
  2. Install the inner seal to the groove inside the caliper piston bore. Ensure the seal is not twisted.

  3. Object Number: 1265700  Size: SH
  4. Lubricate a NEW outer seal with brake fluid.
  5. Install the outer seal.
  6. Lubricate the piston with brake fluid.
  7. Push the piston into the caliper piston bore until the piston is properly seated.
  8. Ensure the seals are properly seated.

  9. Object Number: 1289996  Size: SH
  10. Coat the guide pins with Silicone Brake Lubricant, GM P/N 89021536, ACDelco P/N 89021537 (Canadian P/N 89021538), or equivalent.
  11. Install the guide pins and the NEW rubber boots.
  12. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Install the bleeder valve protector and bleeder valve.
  14. Tighten:
    Tighten the bleeder valve to 9 N·m (6 lb ft).

  15. Install the front pad brake set, including the pad springs to the caliper. Refer to Front Disc Brake Pads Replacement .

  16. Object Number: 1265713  Size: SH
  17. Install caliper housing to the retaining frame.
  18. Install the guide pin bolts.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the guide pin bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  20. Install the caliper assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement .
