Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1279785  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the inlet and outlet heater hoses from the heater core.
  4. Recover the refrigerant if an air conditioning (A/C) system is equipped. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  5. Remove the high pressure pipe and suction hose on the cowl, if an A/C system is equipped.
  6. Remove the upper 4 bolts that secures the heater/air distributor case assembly.

  8. Lift the vehicle and remove the lower 2 bolts that secure the heater/air distributor case assembly.

  9. Object Number: 1279788  Size: SH
  10. Remove the instrument panel carrier assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement in Instrument Pane, Gages, and Console.
  11. Remove the nut (1) that secures the heat/air distribution case.
  12. Remove the heater/air distribution case assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1279788  Size: SH
  1. Install the heater/air distribution case assembly.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the nut (1) that secures heat/air distribution case.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  5. Install the instrument panel carrier assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

  6. Object Number: 1279786  Size: SH
  7. Lift the vehicle and install the lower 2 bolts that secure the heater/air distributor case assembly.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  9. Install the upper 4 bolts that secure the heater/air distributor case assembly.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  11. Install the high pressure pipe and suction hose on the cowl, if an A/C system is equipped.
  12. Install the inlet and outlet heater hoses to the heater core.
  13. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  14. Recharge the refrigerant if an A/C system is equipped. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
