Outer Tie Rod Remover
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the front wheels. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
.
- Remove the caulking nut from the axle shaft.
- Remove the outer tie rod from the knuckle assembly using
KM-507-C
. Refer to

- Remove the brake caliper from the rotor. Support the caliper so it does not hang from the hydraulic brake hose. Refer to
Brake Caliper Replacement
.
- On vehicles equipped with an antilock braking system (ABS), disconnect the ABS speed sensor electrical connection from the knuckle. Refer to
Front Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement
or
Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement
.
- Remove the rotor and splash shield. Refer to
Brake Rotor Replacement
.
- Remove the ball joint pinch bolt and the nut.
- Separate the knuckle from the ball joint.
Notice: Use only the recommended tools for separating the ball joint from the
knuckle. Failure to use the recommended tools may cause damage to the ball
joint and seal.
Notice: Do not overextend the wheel drive shaft. Allowing the inboard joint
to overextend can cause separation of the internal components and lead to
joint failure.
- Separate the drive axle shaft from the wheel hub and support the drive axle.
- Remove the bolts and nuts that connect the knuckle assembly to the strut assembly.
- Remove knuckle assembly from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install knuckle assembly to vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the bolts and nuts that connect the knuckle assembly to the strut assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts and nuts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).
- Connect the drive axle shaft to the wheel hub.
- Connect the knuckle to the ball joint.
- Install the ball joint pinch bolt and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the ball joint pinch bolt and nut to 280 N·m (206 lb ft).
- Install the rotor and splash shield.
- On vehicles equipped with ABS, disconnect the ABS speed sensor electrical connection from the knuckle.
- Install the brake caliper to the rotor.
- Install the outer tie rod to the knuckle assembly.
- Install the caulking nut to the axle shaft.
- Install the front wheels. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
