Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1263583  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air filter housing bolts.
  3. Remove the air filter housing assembly.

  4. Object Number: 1263802  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector.
  6. Disconnect the breather hose from the valve cover.
  7. Remove the air intake tube from the throttle body.

  8. Object Number: 1263807  Size: SH
  9. Remove the forward engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  10. Disconnect the clips at the upper front timing belt cover.
  11. Remove the torque roll axis cover bolt.
  12. Remove the torque roll axis cover.

  14. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  15. Remove the right front wheel splash shield.
  16. Notice: Refer to Belt Dressing Notice in the Preface section.

  17. Remove the serpentine accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement .
  18. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolts.
  19. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

  21. Remove the front timing belt cover bolts.
  22. Remove the front timing belt cover.

    Important: The camshaft gears must align with the notch on the valve cover or damage to the engine could result.

  24. Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the timing mark on the crankshaft gear is aligned with the notch at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.
  25. Important: Use the intake gear mark for the intake camshaft gear and the exhaust gear (1) mark for the exhaust camshaft gear (2) since both gears are interchangeable.

  26. Align the camshaft gears with the notch on the valve cover.

  28. Loosen the automatic tensioner bolt. Turn the hex key tab to relieve the belt tension.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1263811  Size: SH
  1. Install the timing belt.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Use the intake gear mark for the intake camshaft gear and the exhaust gear mark for the exhaust camshaft gear since both gears are interchangeable.

  3. Turn the hextab to allow installation of the timing belt to gears, then tighten the automatic tensioner belt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the tensioner bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the front timing belt cover.
  6. Install the front timing belt cover bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the timing belt cover bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  8. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  9. Install the crankshaft pulley bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Install the serpentine accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement .
  12. Install the right front wheel splash shield.
  13. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  14. Object Number: 1263804  Size: SH
  15. Install the torque roll axis cover.
  16. Install the torque roll axis cover bolt.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the axis cover bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  18. Connect the clips at the upper front timing belt cover.
  19. Install the forward engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .

  21. Install the air intake tube from the throttle body.
  22. Connect the breather hose from the valve cover.
  23. Connect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector.

  24. Object Number: 1263583  Size: SH
  25. Install the air filter housing assembly.
  26. Install the air filter housing bolts.
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
