Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement LLV, LLR

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement for the 2.9L engine or Drive Belt Replacement for the 3.7L engine.
  4. Disconnect the compressor electrical connectors.
  5. Note: Some system pressure may still exist in the A/C compressor crankcase after you evacuate the system.

  6. Remove the discharge hose bolt from the compressor.
  7. Remove the suction hose from the compressor.
  8. Remove the compressor hose assembly blocks from the compressor.

  9. Object Number: 735963  Size: SH
  10. Remove the compressor mounting bolts from the compressor (1).
  11. Remove the compressor.
  12. Drain and measure the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing.

Installation Procedure

  1. Adjust the proper amount of oil to the replacement compressor. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities.
  2. Install the compressor.
  3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  4. Install the compressor mounting bolts to the compressor (1). Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Object Number: 735911  Size: SH
  6. Install the compressor hose assembly blocks to the compressor.
  7. Install the suction hose to the compressor
  8. Install the discharge hose bolt to the compressor (1). Tighten the bolts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
  9. Connect the compressor electrical connectors.
  10. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement for the 2.9L engine or Drive Belt Replacement for the 3.7L engine.
  11. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
  12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  13. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A .

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory.
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  6. Remove the A/C drive belt. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Replacement.
  7. Remove the left front wheelhouse panel. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement.
  8. Disconnect lower radiator hose from engine.
  9. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  10. Remove the compressor hoses. Refer to Discharge Hose Replacement and Suction Hose Replacement.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
50 N·m (37 lb ft)

Procedure

Remove and discard seal. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement.
