RATTLING NOISE IN SWING OUT WINDOW ASSEMBLIES

SUBJECT: RATTLING NOISE IN SWING OUT WINDOW ASSEMBLIES (REPLACE LATCH AND BEARING)

MODELS: 1996-98 CHEVROLET AND GMC G VANS (WITH SWING OUT WINDOWS) BUILT AT PLANT CODE 1 PRIOR TO OCTOBER, 1997

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ABOUT A RATTLING NOISE NEAR THE WINDOWS ON EITHER THE SIDE OR THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE.

CAUSE:

THE CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY A REDUCED INTERFACE FIT BETWEEN THE LATCH AND THE LATCH LINK, OR A LOOSE FIT OF THE BEARING TO THE ATTACHING PIN.

CORRECTION:

REPLACE THE LATCH AND THE BEARING USING THE PART NUMBERS LISTED BELOW. USE THE SERVICE PROCEDURE IN SECTION 10A3 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.

THE REAR SWING OUT WINDOWS REQUIRE THE LATCH, P/N 15005922, AND THE BEARING, P/N 15005920. THE SIDE SWING OUT WINDOWS REQUIRE THE LATCH, P/N 15005921, AND THE BEARING, P/N 15005920. WHEN REPLACING THE BEARING, P/N 15005920, YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE FOLLOWING PARTS:

- THE SCREW, P/N 14062360, - THE WINDOW LATCH NUT, P/N 20295400, AND - THE 2 WINDOW HINGE BUSHINGS, P/N 14047335.
