Important: Transfer the broadcast code and production ECM part number to the controller label when replacing a production ECM with a service control module. Do not record the information on the access cover.
Replacement of the Engine Control Module (ECM) consists of a service control module, without a PROM.
Check the ECM and PROMs for the correct part numbers if the diagnostic procedures required the ECM to be replaced. If they are, remove the PROMs and install them in the service control module. The service control module will contain no PROMs.
Notice: Always turn the ignition off when installing or removing the ECM connectors in order to prevent damage to the components.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
