Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.

  5. Object Number: 198510  Size: SH
  6. For a four-nut yoke flange mounting, remove the propeller shaft.

  7. Object Number: 198506  Size: SH
  8. For an eight-nut yoke flange mounting, remove the propeller shaft.
  9. Remove the propeller shaft .
  10. Remove the center bearing assembly from the member. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .

  11. Object Number: 198555  Size: SH
  12. Remove the two-piece propeller shaft mounting.

  13. Object Number: 198622  Size: MH
  14. Remove the propeller shaft.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install NEW universal joints to the propeller shaft . Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 198622  Size: MH
  3. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.
  4. Install the slip yoke and the center bearing assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install and tighten the propeller shaft mounting nuts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

  7. Object Number: 198510  Size: SH
  8. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange a four-nut mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.

  9. Object Number: 198506  Size: SH
  10. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange eight-nut mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.

  11. Object Number: 198555  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   12. Install and tighten the propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the center bearing mounting bolts to 71  N·m(52 lb ft).

  14. Install the rear propeller shaft to center bearing assembly.
  15. Install the center bearing assembly to the cross frame.Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .
  16. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment .
  17. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  18. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  19. Remove the wheel blocks.
