Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  5. Remove propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts.

  6. Object Number: 198564  Size: SH
  7. Remove the propeller shaft from the brake drum.
  8. Remove the propeller shaft.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install NEW universal joints to the propeller shaft . Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .
  2. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.

  3. Object Number: 198622  Size: MH
  4. Install the slip yoke assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end.
  5. Install the front propeller shaft to the brake drum.
  6. Keep the alignment marks together.

  7. Object Number: 198564  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install and tighten the propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts.
  9. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment .
  10. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  11. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in General Information.
  12. Remove the wheel blocks.
