Removal Procedure
- Position the front wheels straight ahead.
- Mark the steering wheel shaft and the steering wheel in order
to allow installation in the same position as when removed.
- Remove the horn pad assembly. Refer to
Horn Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Remove the nut retainer
clip (9) from the steering shaft.
- Disconnect the horn relay leads (2,3) from the column (8,6).
- Remove the steering wheel shaft nut (4).
- Remove the steering wheel
with the J 1859-A
.
Installation Procedure
- Turn the front wheels straight ahead.
- Ensure that the turn signal control assembly is in the neutral
position.
- Align the marks which
were made during the removal procedure and Install the steering wheel (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the steering
wheel shaft nut (4).
Tighten
Tighten the steering wheel shaft nut to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Connect the horn switch power lead (2) and the ground lead (4)
at the wheel (6,8).
- Install the nut retainer clip (9) onto the steering shaft.
- Install the horn pad assembly. Refer to
Horn Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Test the horn for proper operation.
