Transmission Housing Oil Seal Replacement Rear Seal Replacement(2WD)

Tools Required

    • J 8614-01 Yoke Holder
    • J 6125-1B Slide Hammer
    • J 22834-A Extension Housing Seal Installer
    • J 23129 Universal Seal Remover
    • J 38805 Output Shaft Nut Socket

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  3. Remove the following:
  4. • Remove the mainshaft nut.
    • Remove the washer.
    • Remove the rubber washer spline seal.
    • Remove the yoke.

  5. Remove the rear oil seal from the rear case using the J 6125-B (1) and the J 23129 (2).
  6. Remove the rear oil seal from the extension housing.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 100952  Size: SH
  1. Using J 22834-A install the new rear oil seal into the extension housing.

  2. Object Number: 178856  Size: SH
  3. EnsureJ 22834-A is centered on the seal during installation.

  4. Object Number: 100520  Size: SH
  5. Install the following:
  6. • Install the yoke.
    • Install the rubber washer spline seal.
    • Install the washer.
    • Install the mainshaft nut.

    Object Number: 727452  Size: SH
  7. Use the J 8614-01 in order to hold the transmission from rotating.
  8. Tighten the main shaft nut.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the main shaft nut to 441 N·m (325 lb ft).

  10. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  11. Check the transmission oil level. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
  12. Lower the vehicle.

Transmission Housing Oil Seal Replacement Front SealReplacement

Tools Required

    • J 41371 Reluctor Gear Puller.
    • J 38801 Output Seal Installer.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
  3. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 395628  Size: SH
  5. Remove the 2 clutch actuator bolts.
  6. Remove the clutch actuator from the input shaft.

  7. Object Number: 761128  Size: SH
  8. Remove the 4 bolts from the front bearing retainer.
  9. Carefully remove the front bearing retainer.


    Object Number: 761130  Size: SH
  10. Remove the seal from the front bearing retainer. Using a hammer and a punch.

Installation Procedure

Important: Inspect the bearing retainer for any nicks or cracks that may result in a leak. Replace as necessary.


    Object Number: 757859  Size: SH
  1. Place the seal in the front bearing retainer.
  2. Using theJ 38801 install the seal.
  3. Install the front bearing retainer to the transmission.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the 4 bolts to 22 N·m(16 lb in).


    Object Number: 395628  Size: SH
  5. Install the clutch actuator and the bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the clutch actuator bolts to 8 N·m(71 lb in)

  7. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  8. Install the rear propeller. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  9. Inspect the fluid level. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
