J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 475837  Size: SH
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement .
  3. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  4. Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side .
  5. Remove the right pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  6. Remove the generator bracket stud from the cylinder head.

  8. Remove the spark plugs.

  9. Object Number: 328590  Size: SH
  10. Remove the spark plug wire support bolts and support.

  11. Object Number: 480537  Size: SH
  12. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.

  13. Object Number: 480538  Size: SH
  14. Remove the cylinder head.

  15. Object Number: 334312  Size: SH
  16. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.

  17. Object Number: 330553  Size: SH
  18. Remove the cylinder head locator pins, if necessary.
  19. Clean and inspect the cylinder head, if necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection for the 4.3L engine - Unit Repair.
  20. Disassemble the cylinder head, if necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble for the 4.3L engine - Unit Repair.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 334314  Size: SH
  1. Assemble the cylinder head, if necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble for the 4.3L engine - Unit Repair.
  2. Install the cylinder head locator pins, if necessary.

  3. Object Number: 334312  Size: SH

    Important: Do not use any type of sealer on the cylinder head gasket.

  4. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket.

  5. Object Number: 480538  Size: SH
  6. Install the cylinder head.

  7. Object Number: 480537  Size: SH
  8. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 109534480), or equivalent to the threads of the NEW cylinder head bolts.
  9. Install the cylinder head bolts finger tight.
  10. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 5132  Size: SH
  11. Tighten the cylinder head bolts using the sequence shown.
  12. Tighten

        • Tighten the cylinder head bolts a first pass to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
        • Tighten the long cylinder head bolts (1, 4, 5, 8, 9) a final pass to 75 degrees using J 36660-A .
        • Tighten the medium cylinder head bolts (12, 13) a final pass to 65 degrees using J 36660-A .
        • Tighten the short cylinder head bolts (2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11) a final pass to 55 degrees using J 36660-A .

  13. Install the spark plug wire support and bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten spark plug wire support bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  15. Install the spark plugs.
  16. If installing NEW spark plugs measure for the correct gap. Adjust the spark plug gap if necessary.
  17. Specification
    Spark plug gap to 1.52 mm (0.060 in).

    Tighten

        • Tighten the spark plugs for a USED cylinder head to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
        • Tighten the spark plugs on the initial installation of a NEW cylinder head to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  18. Install the generator bracket stud.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the generator bracket stud to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  20. Install the right pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  21. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side .
  22. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  23. Install the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement .
  24. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling g.
