Parking Brake Drum Hydraulic Auto Apply

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 27699  Size: SH
  1. Block the vehicle's wheels.
  2. Turn the ignition ON and move the column shift lever to N (Neutral).
  3. Remove the propeller shaft.

  5. Remove the companion flange bolt and the washer from the center of the yoke.
  6. Remove the brake drum and yoke assembly from the transmission.
  7. Remove the bolts holding the drum to the yoke.

Inspection Procedure

   • 
Object Number: 29102  Size: SH
  • Inspect the drum for cracks, scoring, pitting, grooves, and overheating damage. Repair as needed.
  •    • 
  • Inspect all mounting bolt holes in the drum for stress cracks.
  •    • 
  • Inspect the linings for contamination and excessive wear. Minimum lining thickness is 1.52 mm (0.060 in). Replace the linings as a set.
  •    • 
  • Inspect the brake mechanism for proper operation. Repair as needed.
  • Installation Procedure


      Object Number: 29102  Size: SH
    1. Install the bolts holding the drum to the yoke.
    2. Tighten
      Tighten the bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

      Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    3. Install the drum and yoke assembly to the transmission.
    4. Install the companion flange bolt and the new washer to the transmission mainshaft at the center of the yoke.
    5. Tighten
      Tighten the bolt to 150 N·m (112 lb ft).

    6. Install the propeller shaft.
    7. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Lining Adjustment .

    1. Block the vehicle's wheels.
    2. Remove the propeller shaft.
    3. Remove the bolts holding the yoke and the drum.
    4. Remove the yoke.
    5. Remove the drum.

    3. Tighten
