Indicators Check

  1. Close all of the vehicle's doors.
  2. Leave the safety belt unbuckled.
  3. Verify the gear selector is in the PARK position.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

The vehicle performs a bulb check on the indicators. The following indicators illuminate briefly:

Air Bag

Fasten Belts

   •

Park Brake

   • 

For Diesels the following indicators also illuminate briefly:

       - Low Coolant Level
       - Water In Fuel
    • ABS Indicator does not light. ABS Diagnostic System Check .
    • Air Bag Indicator does not light. SIR Diagnostic System Check .
    • Battery Indicator does not light. Charging System Check .
    • Park Brake Indicator does not light. Hydraulic Park Brake Diagnostic .
    • Security Indicator does not light. Diagnostic System Check - Theft Deterrent .
    • Water-In-Fuel Indicator does not light or is always on. Water-in-Fuel Lamp Diagnosis .
    • Low Engine Coolant Indicator Always On. Low Engine Coolant Indicator Always On .
    • Low Engine Coolant Indicator Inoperative. Low Engine Coolant Indicator Inoperative .

  1. Buckle the driver's safety belt.
  2. Observe the fasten safety belt indicator.

The fasten safety belt indicator is off.

Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Always On .

Apply the park brake.

The park brake indicator illuminates.

Park Brake Indicator Inoperative. Hydraulic Park Brake Diagnostic .

Operate the left turn signal.

   • 

Operate the right turn signal.

Each turn signal indicator flashes.

    • Left Turn Indicator Is Inoperative
    • Right Turn Indicator Inoperative
    • Left Turn Indicator Always On
    • Right Turn Indicator Always On

Exterior Lights System Check .

   • 

Turn the park lights on.

   • 

Disengage the Parking Brake.

   • 

Apply the park brake.

   • 

The DRL indicator illuminates with the Park Brake disengaged.

   • 

The DRL indicator turns off when the Park Brake is applied.

The DRL indicator does not illuminate or turn off with the Park Brake applied. Daytime Running Lights (DRL) System Check .

Turn the headlights on.

The I/P Cluster illumination turns on and dims to the setting on the dimmer control.

I/P Cluster illumination lamps do not turn on or dim. Interior Lights Dimming System Check .

Adjust the instrument panel dimmer control.

The I/P Cluster illumination varies based on the dimmer control adjustment.

I/P Cluster Illumination Does Not Vary. Interior Lights Dimming System Check .

Turn the high beam headlamps on.

The high beam indicator illuminates.

    • High Beam Indicator Inoperative
    • High Beam Indicator Is Always On
    •  Headlight System Check .

Observe the Service Engine Soon indicator.

Service Engine Soon indicator is off.

Service Engine Soon Indicator is always on. Malfunction Indicator Lamp Circuit Check / Malfunction Indicator Lamp Circuit Check / Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Inoperative .

Observe the battery charge indicator.

The battery charge indicator is off.

Battery Charge Indicator Always On. Charging System Check .

Observe the Air Bag indicator.

The Air Bag indicator is off.

Observe the ABS indicator.

The ABS indicator is off.

Observe the SECURITY indicator.

The SECURITY indicator is off.

Cycle the gear selector lever through all of the gear positions.

The PRNDL displays the correct gear positions.

Turn the hazard flashers on.

Both turn indicators flash.

The tachometer indicates the correct engine speed.

Drive vehicle at 30 mph (48 km/h) over a known distance.

The speedometer and the odometer operate properly.
