Perform a Diagnostic on the Transfer Case Control Module w/ Fan Blade Clutch

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 41240 Fan Clutch Wrench

    Caution: Do not use or attempt to repair a damaged cooling fan assembly. Replace damaged fans with new assemblies. An unbalanced cooling fan could fly apart causing personal injury and property damage.

  1. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 48321  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fan clutch using the J 41240 .
  4. Remove the fan and fan blade clutch assembly from vehicle.
  5. Remove the four bolts retaining the fan blade to the fan blade clutch.
  6. Remove the fan from the fan blade clutch.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 48321  Size: SH
  1. Install the fan to the fan blade clutch.
  2. Install the four bolts retaining the fan blade to the clutch.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the fan blade clutch assembly using the J 41240 .
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fan blade clutch assembly to 56 N·m (41 lb ft).

  6. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
