Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

  1. Engage the parking brakes.
  2. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  3. Move the shift lever between all of the gear positions.
  4. Observe the shift lever indicators.
  5. Place the shift lever in the PARK position.

Do some of the indicators illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the instrument cluster connector CKT 1020 (PNK) cavity B10 to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the park/neutral position and backup lamp switch.
  2. Connect a DMM J 39200 between CKT 651 (BLK/WHT) connector C2 cavity D and ground.

Is there continuity?

--`

Repair the open in CKT 1020 (PNK) between the instrument panel (IP) fuse block and the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
  3. Use a DMM J 39200 in order to inspect for continuity between the instrument cluster and the park/neutral position and backup lamp switch.
  4. Inspect for continuity between the instrument cluster and ground on the following wires:
  5. • CKT 776 (WHT)
    • CKT 773 (GRY)
    • CKT 772 (YEL)
    • CKT 771 (BLK/WHT)

Is 1 or more wire open or shorted to ground?

Repair the open in CKT 651 (BLK/WHT) between the park/neutral position and backup lamp switch and ground G107.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Reconnect the instrument cluster.
  2. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  3. Connect from 2 to 4 fused jumper wires from the listed transmission range selector to ground as shown by the X. Refer to PRNDL Logic Input Test
  4. Repeat this procedure for each transmission range column.

Are the indicators correct as tested?

Repair the opens and/or shorts to ground in the following circuits between the instrument cluster and the park/neutral position and backup lamp switch:

    • CKT 776 (WHT)
    • CKT 773 (GRY)
    • CKT 772 (YEL)
    • CKT 771 (BLK/WHT)

Is the repair complete?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
