Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

  1. Disconnect the fuel level sender.
  2. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  3. Connect 1 red lead of tester J 33431-C to CKT 1589 (PPL/WHT) to wire cavity B.

    Connect the other lead to ground.

    Set the resistance to 250ohms.

Does the fuel gauge indicate full?

--

Go to Step 4

  1. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the VCM BLUE C1 connector.
  3. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.

Does the fuel gauge indicate full?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 5

Replace the fuel level sender. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

  1. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
  3. Connect a DMM J 39200 from the instrument cluster CKT 30 (PPL) cavity B2 to ground.

Is there continuity?

--

Go to Step 7

Replace the vehicle control module (VCM). Refer to VCM Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

Repair the short to ground in CKT 30 (PPL) between the instrument cluster and the VCM.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

Replace the fuel gauge. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
