    • J 41371 Reluctor Wheel Remover
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

    in General Information.
  2. Remove the coolant reservoir.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4. Remove the generator and the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  5. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement .
  6. Important: If the crankshaft sensor reluctor ring is removed, a new crankshaft sensor reluctor ring must be installed.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 22102 Crankshaft Sprocket Installer

  1. Install the crankshaft key, if necessary.
  2. Important: Ensure that the sprocket alignment mark faces away from the engine block. Ensure that the sprocket is fully seated against the crank shoulder.

    Object Number: 65850 Size: SH
  3. Install the crankshaft sprocket using the J 22102 .
  4. Important: Ensure that the following conditions exist:

       • The camshaft and the crankshaft timing marks are aligned
       • The camshaft dowel pin and the camshaft sprocket hole are properly aligned
       • The gears and the chain mesh

    Object Number: 11503 Size: SH
  5. Install the camshaft timing chain to the camshaft sprocket.
  6. Install the camshaft sprocket and the camshaft timing chain to the front of the camshaft.
  7. Notice: Do not hammer the camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft. To do so may dislodge the rear camshaft plug and damage the camshaft.

  8. Install the camshaft sprocket bolts. Use the bolts to draw the camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Important: Replace the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring with a new component.

    Object Number: 65847 Size: SH
  10. Install the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring onto the crankshaft until the ring is completely seated against the crankshaft sprocket using the J 22102 .
  11. Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement .
  12. Install the generator and the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  13. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  14. Install the coolant reservoir.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
