Cruise Control Does Not Disengage with Brake Pedal Gasoline Engine

Was the Cruise Control System Check performed?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the cruise control module.
  2. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  3. Connect an unpowered test lamp between the cruise control connector cavity D for CKT 420 (PPL) and ground.
  4. Observe the test lamp lights.
  5. Actuate the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp remain lit?

Replace the cruise control module. Refer to Cruise Control Module Replacement .

Does the cruise still not disengage with the brake pedal?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the torque convertor clutch (TCC)/stoplamp switch.
  2. Connect an unpowered test lamp between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector cavity C for CKT 420 (PPL) and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the short to voltage on CKT 420 (PPL) between the TCC/stoplamp switch and the following components:

    • The cruise control module
    • The electronic brake control module
    • The vehicle control module

Does the cruise still not disengage with the brake pedal?

Adjust or replace the TCC/stoplamp switch as needed. Refer to TCC/Stoplamp Replacement in Brakes.

  1. Disconnect connector C2 at the powertrain control module (PCM).
  2. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  3. Connect an unpowered test lamp between the PCM connector C2 cavity B9 for CKT 410 (PPL) and ground.
  4. Observe that the test lamp lights?
  5. Actuate the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp remain lit?

Replace the PCM. Refer to PCM Replacement in Engine Controls.

Does the cruise still not disengage with the brake pedal depressed?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the torque convertor clutch (TCC)/stoplamp switch.
  2. Connect an unpowered test lamp between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector cavity C for CKT 420 (PPL) and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the short to voltage on CKT 420 (PPL) between the TCC/stoplamp switch and the following components:

    • The PCM
    • The electronic brake control module (EBCM)

Does the cruise still not disengage with the brake pedal depressed?

Adjust or replace the TCC/stoplamp switch as needed. Refer to TCC/Stoplamp Switch Replacement in Brakes.
