Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Right
Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the screw retaining
the oil fill tube to the generator and drive belt tensioner bracket.
- Remove the oil fill tube from the engine.
- Disconnect the ignition control module (ICM) electrical connector.

- Open the engine electrical harness retainer.
- Reposition the engine electrical harness over the ignition coil.
- Disconnect the spark plug wires from the distributor cap. Refer
to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove AIR bypass hose assembly, if so equipped. Refer to
Secondary Air Injection Check Valve and Check Valve Pipe Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the crankcase vent
tube from the right side valve rocker arm cover.
- Remove the valve cover from the engine.
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the right
valve cover and gasket to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m 106 lb in.
- Install the crankcase
vent tube to the right side valve cover.
- Connect the spark plug wires to the distributor cap. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- The wires and the distributor cap are numbered in order to aid
assembly.
- Install AIR bypass hose assembly, if so equipped. Refer to
Secondary Air Injection Check Valve and Check Valve Pipe Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Reposition the engine electrical harness into the harness retainer.
- Close the engine electrical harness retainer.
- Connect the ignition control module (ICM) electrical connector.

- Install the engine oil fill tube to the engine.
- Install the engine cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left
Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Disconnect the spark plug wires from the distributor cap. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine
Electrical.
- Remove the PCV valve from the valve rocker arm cover and set it
aside.
- Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector. Refer to
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement
in
Engine Controls.
- Remove AIR bypass hose assembly, if so equipped. Refer to
Secondary Air Injection Check Valve and Check Valve Pipe Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- In order to gain access, remove the A/C compressor, if equipped.

- Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump.
Refer to

- Remove the power steering
pump mounting bracket. Refer to
Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement
.
- Lay the power steering pump and the power steering pump bracket
aside.
- Remove the left valve
rocker arm cover and gasket from the engine.
- Clean all sealing surfaces.

- Install the power steering pump bracket . Refer to

- Install the Power Steering Pump. Refer to

- Install the A/C compressor, if equipped. Refer to
Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement
in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Connect the ETC sensor electrical connector. Refer to
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement
in
Engine Controls.
- Install the PCV valve to the valve rocker arm cover.
- Install AIR bypass hose assembly, if so equipped. Refer to
Secondary Air Injection Check Valve and Check Valve Pipe Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Connect the spark plug wires to the distributor cap. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Install the engine cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
