Does the system operate normally?

  1. Ensure that the battery is charged.
  2. Disconnect the connector for CKT 25 (BRN) at the generator. If equipped with dual generators disconnect both generators.
  3. Connect a J 36169-A fused jumper wire between the generator connector cavity B (W/ 100 Amp generator/dual generators) or cavity L (W/ 124 Amp Generator) and a known good ground. If equipped with dual generators, connect to each generator one at a time.
  4. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.

Is the Charge indicator lamp lit?

  1. Check that the generator(s) electrical grounding is good.
  2. If the generator(s) is electrically well grounded, replace the generator(s). Refer to Generator Replacement or Auxiliary Generator Replacement .

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  2. Disconnect the connector the instrument cluster.
  3. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the instrument cluster connector cavity B16 for CKT 25 (BRN) and the generator connector cavity B (W/ 100 Amp generator/dual generators) or cavity L (W/ 124 Amp generator).

Is continuity present?

Check for an open filament in the Charge Indicator lamp.

Is the filament open?

Locate and repair the open in CKT 25 (BRN) between the instrument panel and the generator(s). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 12

Replace Charge Indicator lamp. Refer to Instrument Cluster Bulb Replacement .

  1. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the instrument cluster connector cavity B17 for CKT 39 (PNK) and a known good ground.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.

Is B+ present at the instrument cluster?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Locate and repair the open in CKT 39 (PNK) between the IP fuse block and the instrument cluster. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
