  1. Turn OFF the engine.
  2. Disconnect the connector for CKT 25 (BRN) from the generator. If equipped with dual generators disconnect both generators, one at a time.

Does the Charge Indicator remain lit with the generator(s) unplugged and the ignition turned ON?

  1. Turn ignition OFF.
  2. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the generator B+ terminal and the positive battery terminal.
  3. Start the engine and run at fast idle (approximately 2000 RPM).
  4. Turn on all accessories.
  5. Measure volt drop across output side of charging system.

Is volt drop more than the specified amount?

0.3 volt

  1. Turn ignition OFF.
  2. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the generator case and the negative battery terminal.
  3. Start the engine and run at fast idle (approximately 2000 RPM).
  4. Turn on all accessories.
  5. Measure volt drop across output side of charging system.

Is volt drop more than the specified amount?

0.2 volt

Locate and repair the open or high resistance in CKT 2 (RED) between the generator and battery positive terminal. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Locate and repair the open or high resistance between the generator case and battery negative terminal. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the generator(s). Refer to Generator Replacement or Auxiliary Generator Replacement .

Does the battery indicator remain lit?

--

  1. Disconnect the connector at the instrument cluster.
  2. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the generator connector cavity B (W/ 100 amp generator or dual generators) or cavity L (W/ 124 amp generator) and a known good ground.

Is continuity present?

Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 25 (BRN) between the instrument cluster and the generator(s). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Cluster And Gages, in Electrical Diagnosis.
