J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the retaining bolt (1) from the evaporator case.

  3. Object Number: 300815  Size: SH
  4. Remove the evaporator tube from the evaporator (5).
  5. Remove the O-ring seal.
  6. Remove the radiator grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  7. Remove the evaporator tube from the condenser.
  8. If equipped with auxiliary A/C:
  9. 7.1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
    7.2. Remove the evaporator tube (3) from the auxiliary A/C evaporator underbody front tube assembly.
  10. Remove the O-ring seal.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement In HVAC

  2. Object Number: 300815  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the evaporator tube to the condenser.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the evaporator tube to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

  5. Install the radiator grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  6. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement In HVAC
  7. Coat the O-ring with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  8. Install the evaporator tube to the evaporator (5).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the evaporator tube to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

  10. Install the evaporator tube to the auxiliary A/C evaporator underbody front tube assembly, if equipped.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the evaporator tube to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

    7.1. Remove the safety stands.
    7.2. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Install the retaining bolt (1) to the evaporator case.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A .
