Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: The following conditions both occur:

    • The front video display does not turn ON. The status indicator is OFF and the screen backlighting is OFF.
    • The rear video display does not turn ON. The status indicator is OFF and the screen backlighting is OFF.
    • The video cassette player (VCP) does not turn ON. The power indicator ON the VCP PWR button is OFF.

Did you perform a Diagnostic System Check-Entertainment System?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Test the operation of the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) control with the rear video system OFF.
  3. Lower the screen of the front video display. The video display backlighting turns ON, without an image, and the status indicator ON the video display turns ON red solid, not flashing.
  4. Press the PWR button on the video cassette player (VCP). The red indicator ON the VCP PWR button turns ON.

Does the system operate normally?

Test the ground circuit of the audio/video interface module for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit for an open or short to ground at the following locations:

    • At the input circuit to the audio/video interface module
    • Between the audio/video interface module and the front video display

Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the front video display connector C1.
  2. Measure the voltage of the battery positive voltage circuit at the front video display connector C1.

Is the voltage within the range shown?

9.5-13.5 V

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors C2 and C5 of the audio/video interface module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the front video display. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the front video display. Refer to Video Display Replacement .
