Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: The rear speakers do not mute when the radio is turned ON, causing the rear speakers to play video audio while the radio is ON.

Did you perform a Diagnostic System Check-Entertainment System?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the wireless headphones.
  3. Test the operation of the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) control with the rear video system OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the radio and the RSA control.
  5. Turn ON power to the video cassette player (VCP) and the video display.
  6. Insert a pre-recorded VHS tape in the VCP and press the PLAY button on the VCP. The video display plays video from the VCP. Video audio plays through the rear speakers and the wireless headphones, both channels.
  7. While the VCP is playing, turn the radio ON. The rear speakers mute. The front speakers play radio audio. Video audio plays through the wireless headphones, both channels.

Test the radio on signal circuit for an open or a short to ground at the following locations:

    • Between the audio/video interface module and the front video display
    • Between the radio and the audio/video interface module

Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the front video display connector C1.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Measure the voltage of the radio on signal circuit at the front video display connector C1.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

8 -13.5 V

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the audio/video interface module connector C5.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Measure the voltage of the radio on signal circuit at the audio/video interface module connector C5.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

8-13.5 V

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the front video display. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors C2 and C5 of the audio/video interface module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
