Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: One of the following conditions occurs while playing the rear video system with an auxiliary input video source:

    • Video audio is reduced or OFF from all speakers and headphone speakers.
    • Video audio is reduced or OFF at one side of all speakers and headphone speakers.

Operation of the rear video system, playing a video with the VCP, is normal.

Did you perform a Diagnostic System Check-Entertainment System?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the wireless headphones.
  3. Test the operation of the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) control with the rear video system OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the radio and the RSA control.
  5. Turn ON power to the video cassette player (VCP) and the front video display.
  6. Insert a pre-recorded VHS tape in the VCP and press the PLAY button on the VCP. The front video display plays video from the VCP. Video audio plays through the rear speakers and the wireless headphones, both channels.
  7. Stop the VCP.
  8. Connect an auxiliary video source to the auxiliary RCA video jacks.
  9. Turn ON the auxiliary video source, and press AUX on the VCP remote control. The front video display plays auxiliary video. Auxiliary video audio plays through the rear speakers and the wireless headphones, both channels.

Does the system operate normally?

Using the rear video remote control, test the balance and fade to the rear speakers while playing an auxiliary video source.

Is the video audio inoperative for one side only of all speakers and headphone speakers during auxiliary video play?

Go to Step 5

Test the auxiliary audio signal (-) circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Test the auxiliary audio left signal (+) circuit or the auxiliary audio right signal (+) circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors C1 and C2 of the audio/video interface module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the front video display. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
