Auxiliary Video Display is Poor or Blank Front Display

Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: While playing the rear video system with an auxiliary input video source, the front video picture is garbled or blank, but the screen backlighting is OK. Operation of the video system, playing a video with the VCP on the front video display, is normal.

Did you perform a Diagnostic System Check-Entertainment System?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the wireless headphones.
  3. Test the operation of the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) control with the rear video system OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the radio and the RSA control.
  5. Turn ON power to the video cassette player (VCP) and the video display.
  6. Insert a pre-recorded VHS tape in the VCP and press the PLAY button on the VCP. The video display plays video from the VCP. Video audio plays through the rear speakers and the wireless headphones, both channels.
  7. Stop the VCP.
  8. Connect an auxiliary video source to the auxiliary RCA video jacks.
  9. Turn ON the auxiliary video source, and press AUX on the VCP remote control. The video display plays auxiliary video. Auxiliary video audio plays through the rear speakers and the wireless headphones, both channels.

Does the system operate normally?

Test the auxiliary video signal (+) circuit for an open between the following circuits and the audio/video interface module:

    • The front video display
    • The auxiliary audio/video input control

Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the auxiliary video signal (-) circuit for an open between the following circuits and the audio/video interface module:

    • The front video display
    • The auxiliary audio/video input control

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors C1 and C2 of the audio/video interface module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the wireless headphones.

    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage
