Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: When carrying an undeployed inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner:

       • Do not carry the seat belt pretensioner by the wires or connector.
       • Carry the seat belt pretensioner by the piston tube, keeping hands and fingers away from the cable.
       • Make sure the open end of the seat belt pretensioner piston tube points away from you and other people.
       • Do not cover the seat belt pretensioner piston tube opening with your hand.
    Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling for the drivers side.
  2. Remove the screws (1) from the pretensioner trim cover (2).
  3. Remove the pretensioner trim cover (2).

    Important: Note the wiring and connector routing during the removal, in order to route the wiring properly during assembly.

  5. Remove the pretensioner bolt (2) and remove pretensioner (1) from seat.

Installation Procedure

  1. Align the locating tab to the slot and install the pretensioner (1) to the seat.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolt (2) while holding pretensioner (1) in place.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt (2) to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  5. Route the pretensioner electrical harness to the seat.
  6. Connect the pretensioner electrical connector (3).

  8. Install the pretensioner trim cover (2).
  9. Install the pretensioner trim cover screws (1).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the screws (1) to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling for the drivers side.
  12. Make sure that the removed pretensioner is properly scrapped. Refer to Pretensioner Handling and Scrapping .
