Schematic Reference: Instrument Cluster Schematics

Connector End View References: Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console Connector End Views , Powertrain Control Module Connector End Views in Engine Controls-4.3L or Powertrain Control Module Connector End Views in Engine Controls-4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L

DEFINITION: This diagnostic procedure applies only to the serial data gages located in the instrument cluster which include the engine coolant temperature gage, the speedometer, and the volt gage.

Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. With the scan tool, perform the Displays Test.

Does the gage move from 0 to its maximum value and back to 0 when you perform the Displays Test?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Important: If the suspect gage is the speedometer, the drive wheels of the vehicle must be raised and the transmission must be placed in drive or first gear. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Start the engine.
  4. Observe the appropriate parameter in the PCM Data list. Refer to Scan Tool Data List .

Does the parameter match the gage display?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 4

Important: Program the replacement IPC.

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 5

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear any induced DTCs.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

--

System OK
