J 42371 Clutch Line Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Shift the transmission into 3rd or 4th speed gear.
  2. Remove the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Drain the transmission oil. Refer to Fluid Replacement
  5. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  6. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  8. Remove the 2 bolts and nut securing the support to the transmission and engine.

  9. Object Number: 449316  Size: SH
  10. Remove the 2 bolts securing the support to the transmission and engine.

  11. Object Number: 102888  Size: SH
  12. Use the J 42371 , push back on the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect in order to separate the hydraulic clutch line from the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.
  13. Disconnect the wiring harness and connector from the vehicle speed sensor, backup lamp switch, and transmission harness retainers.

  15. Remove the bolts securing the clutch housing cover to the transmission.
  16. Remove the transmission rear mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  17. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  18. Remove the bolts securing the transmission to the engine.
  19. Pull the transmission straight back on the clutch hub splines. Do not let the transmission hang from the clutch plate and the clutch cover.
  20. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
  21. Remove the clutch plate and the clutch cover from the engine flywheel if required. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.

  23. If required, remove the insulator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the clutch plate and the clutch cover to the engine flywheel if removed. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.

  2. Object Number: 449280  Size: SH
  3. If removed, install the insulator to the vehicle.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the transmission:
  6. 3.1. Ensure the transmission is positioned in the 3rd or 4th speed gear.
    3.2. Rotate the transmission clockwise onto the clutch hub splines.
    3.3. Install the bolts securing the transmission to the engine.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  7. Install the clutch housing cover using the bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  9. Install the transmission rear mount.

  11. Install the clutch line to the concentric slave cylinder.

  12. Object Number: 449316  Size: SH
  13. Install the two bolt securing the right side support to the transmission and engine.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  15. Install the two bolts and nut securing the left side support brace to the transmission and engine.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts and nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  17. Install the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  18. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  19. Install the shift tower. Refer to Shift Tower Replacement .
  20. Fill the transmission with transmission fluid. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
  21. Install the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement .
