Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 748573  Size: SH
  1. Release the park brake, if applied.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Notice: Refer to Brake Caliper Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.

  7. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.

  8. Object Number: 790168  Size: SH
  9. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 370688  Size: SH
  11. Remove the backing plate nuts.
  12. Remove the backing plate from axle housing flange.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 370688  Size: SH
  1. Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the backing plate nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the backing plate bolts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).

  5. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 788488  Size: SH
  7. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.

  8. Object Number: 177201  Size: SH
  9. Adjust the park brake shoe (1). Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .

  10. Object Number: 748573  Size: SH
  11. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  14. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
  15. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  16. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 9-10 until a firm brake pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  17. Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
