Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. If equipped, remove the auxiliary generator. Refer to Auxiliary Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. If equipped with dual generators, remove the bolt from the left side idler pulley (smooth pulley).
  6. Remove the idler pulley assembly.

  8. Disconnect the air conditioning (A/C) compressor clutch electrical connector.
  9. Disconnect the A/C cut out switch electrical connector.
  10. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts.
  11. Move the A/C compressor with the hoses attached to the right side of the engine compartments.

  13. Remove the bolts (1) retaining the rear power steering (PS) pump bracket to the A/C compressor and PS pump mounting bracket.
  14. Remove the bolts retaining the PS pump front bracket to the PS pump and A/C compressor mounting bracket.
  15. Move and secure the PS pump out of the way. The hoses and battery cables can remain attach to PS pump.

  17. Remove the A/C compressor and PS pump mounting bracket 4 bolts.
  18. Remove the A/C compressor and PS pump mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the A/C compressor and PS pump mounting bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the A/C compressor and PS pump mounting bracket 4 bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the mounting bracket bolts to 46 N·m (34 lb ft).

  5. Install the PS pump with the front bracket.
  6. Loosely install the bolts.
  7. Install the bolts to the rear PS pump bracket.
  8. Tighten

    1. Tighten the rear bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the PS pump front bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
  9. If equipped with dual generators, install the left side idler pulley assembly with the bolt.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the idler pulley bolt to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  11. Install the auxiliary generator. Refer to Auxiliary Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  13. Position the A/C compressor.
  14. Install the A/C compressor mounting bolts.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  16. Connect the A/C cut out switch electrical connector.
  17. Connect the A/C clutch electrical connector.
  18. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  19. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  20. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
