Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 1302113  Size: SH
  4. Remove the service slot plug.

  5. Object Number: 1386661  Size: SH

    Important: The crankshaft balancer does not have a key-way; so the crankshaft could turn when tightening, causing an improper torque.

  6. Install the EN 46547  (1) into the flywheel teeth.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove the fan. Refer to Fan Replacement.
  9. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.
  10. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  11. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement.

  12. Object Number: 856226  Size: SH
  13. Remove and discard the crankshaft balancer bolt.

  14. Object Number: 856227  Size: SH
  15. Install the J 41816-2 and J 41816-A to the crankshaft balancer.
  16. Important: Do not pull on outer edge of the crankshaft balancer.

  17. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
  18. Remove the J 41816-2 and J 41816-A .
  19. Remove the crankshaft balancer friction washer.
  20. This will be located at the end of the crankshaft balancer or on the crankshaft.

  21. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 856229  Size: SH
  1. Install the crankshaft balancer using the EN-48034 .
  2. Remove the EN-48034 .
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 856226  Size: SH
  4. Install the crankshaft balancer washer and a NEW bolt.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt a first pass to 150 N·m (111 lb ft). Using the J 45059 rotate the bolt a final pass an additional 180 degrees.

  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  7. Object Number: 1386661  Size: SH
  8. Remove the EN 46547  (1) from the flywheel teeth.

  9. Object Number: 1302113  Size: SH
  10. Install the service slot plug.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement.
  13. Install the fan. Refer to Fan Replacement.
  14. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.
  15. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
  16. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
