Removal Procedure
Note: When servicing the inner drive shaft housing, the inner drive shaft bearing must be replaced. The bearing IS NOT serviced with the inner drive shaft housing.
- Remove the left differential carrier mounting bracket. Refer to
Differential Carrier Assembly Bushing and Bracket Replacement.
- Remove the retaining bolts from the disconnect housing.
- Remove the coupling housing.
- Remove the coupler.
- Remove the gasket.
- Remove the intermediate housing retaining bolts (1).
- Remove the intermediate housing (2).
- Remove the intermediate housing gasket (3).
- Install the intermediate shaft housing in a suitable clamping device.
- Using the
J 29369-1 (1) and the
J 2619-01 (2), remove the inner drive shaft bearing.
Installation Procedure
- Using the
J 45232 (1) and the
J 8092 (2), install the inner drive shaft bearing.
- Apply a small amount of clean grease on the housing gasket (3) to hold it in place.
- Install the intermediate housing (2).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
Note: Perform the following:
• | Clean the thread locking material from the bolts. |
• | Apply new thread locking material to the bolts (DRI-LOC 204 Red, GM P/N 12345493. |
- Install the retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the retaining bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Install the intermediate shaft.
- Apply a small amount of grease to the housing gasket to hold it in place.
- Install the coupler.
- Position the coupler housing on the intermediate housing.
- Install the retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the retaining bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Install the left differential carrier mounting bracket. Refer to
Differential Carrier Assembly Bushing and Bracket Replacement.
- Lower the vehicle.
