Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine shield, if equipped. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement.
  2. Disconnect the rack and pinion outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
  3. Remove as much power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
  4. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.

  6. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose from the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement.
  7. Disconnect the lower intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.

  9. Remove the vertical steering gear nut, washer, and bolt.

  10. Object Number: 1207227  Size: SH
  11. Remove the horizontal steering gear nut, washer, and bolt.
  12. Remove the steering gear bracket bolts and bracket.
  13. Remove the steering gear from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering gear to the vehicle.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1207227  Size: SH

    Note: Hand start all bolts before finalizing any torques.

  3. Install the steering gear bracket and bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  5. Install the horizontal steering gear nut, washer, and bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

  7. Install the vertical steering gear nut, washer, and bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

  9. Connect the lower intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.

  11. Connect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose to the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement.
  12. Install the engine shield, if equipped. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement.
  13. Install the rack and pinion outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
  14. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
  15. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment.
