Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: The sensing and the diagnosis module (SDM) can maintain
sufficient voltage to deploy the airbags and pretensioners for up to 1 minute after
the ignition has been turned OFF and the fuse has been removed. If the airbags and
pretensioners are not disconnected, do not begin service until one minute has been
passed after disconnecting power to the SDM. Failure to do so may cause personal injury.
- Disable the supplemental inflatable restraints (SIR). Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Remove the glove box. Refer to
Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement
.
- Disconnect the passenger air bag yellow electrical connector.
- Remove the air bag module mounting bolts (1) from the tie bar.
- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement
.
- Remove the passenger air bag module mounting nuts (1) from the upper instrument panel.
- Remove the passenger air bag module (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the passenger air bag module (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the passenger air bag module mounting nuts (1) to the upper instrument panel.
Tighten
Tighten the passenger air bag module mounting bolts to 10 N·m (84 lb in).
- Install the instrument panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement
.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the passenger air bag module mounting bolts (1) to the tie bar.
Tighten
Tighten the passenger air bag module mounting bolts to 10 N·m (84 lb in).
- Connect the passenger air bag yellow electrical connector.
- Install the glove box. Refer to
Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement

- Enable the SIR. Refer to
