Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Relieving Fuel Pressure Warning in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1760004 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Drain the fuel tank. Ensure that the fuel level in the tank is less than 1/4 full. If necessary, drain the fuel tank to at least this level.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  5. Remove the front muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement.
  6. Remove the propeller shaft and rear drive module (RDM). Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement and Differential Replacement.

  7. Disconnect the fuel pump connector at the right rear side of the fuel tank.
  8. Disconnect the fuel tank filler tube, evaporative emission (EVAP) vent hose and vapor hose from the fuel tank.

    9. Object Number: 1785000 Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the fuel feed line near the right front side of the fuel tank.
  10. Disconnect the fuel vapor pipe from the EVAP canister.

    11. Object Number: 1785003 Size: SH
  11. Support the fuel tank.
  12. Remove the parking brake cables support bracket bolts and move it away from the fuel tank.
  13. Remove the fuel tank strap retaining nuts.
  14. Remove the fuel tank straps.
  15. Carefully lower the jack and move the front of the fuel pump downward while tilting the rear of the fuel pump upward.
  16. Remove the fuel tank.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1785003 Size: SH
  1. Install the fuel tank in the position previously removed.

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Install the fuel tank straps and tighten the retaining nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
  3. Install the parking brake cables support bracket bolts.

  4. Connect the fuel vapor pipe to the EVAP canister.
  5. Connect the fuel feed line near the right front side of the fuel tank.

    6. Object Number: 1784998 Size: SH
  6. Connect the fuel tank filler tube, EVAP vent hose and vapor hose to the fuel tank.
  7. Connect the fuel pump connector at the right rear side of the fuel tank.
  8. Install the parking brake cables support bracket. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement.

    9. Object Number: 1760004 Size: SH
  9. Install the front muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement.
  10. Install the propeller shaft and RDM. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement and Differential Replacement.
  11. Fill the fuel tank.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  13. Perform a leak check of the fuel tank and the fuel line connections.
