Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Caution in the Preface section.

    Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Note: Caliper removal is not necessary to service the brake pads.

  4. Remove the lower caliper guide pin bolt.

  5. Object Number: 1255718  Size: SH
  6. Pivot the caliper upward.
  7. Remove the brake shoes.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1255718  Size: SH
  1. Measure the minimum brake shoe lining thickness. Refer to Brake Pad Inspection.
  2. Install the brake shoes into the caliper.
  3. Push the piston inward, if needed.
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Note: Avoid damaging the piston seal when the piston housing is pulled down.

  5. Pivot the caliper downward and install the bolt and tighten to 31 N·m (23 lb ft).
  6. Install the rear wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
