Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 229889 Size: SH
  1. Remove the assist handle bolts.
  2. Remove the assist handle.

    3. Object Number: 588991 Size: SH
  3. Remove the instrument panel lower trim.
  4. Disconnect the audio system. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  5. Remove the lower air distributor duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement .

    6. Object Number: 229927 Size: SH
  6. Remove the heater cores. Refer to Heater Core Replacement .
  7. Remove the evaporator core. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Core Replacement .
  8. Remove the heater vent module, right side.

    9. Object Number: 397476 Size: SH
  9. Remove the heater vent module, left side.
  10. Remove the control rod and retaining screws.

    11. Object Number: 574888 Size: SH
  11. Remove the mode actuator.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 574888 Size: SH
  1. Install the mode actuator.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the control rod and the retaining screws.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  3. Install the heater vent module, left side.

    4. Object Number: 229927 Size: SH
  4. Install the heater vent module, right side.
  5. Install the heater cores. Refer to Heater Core Replacement .
  6. Install the evaporator core if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Core Replacement .
  7. Install the lower air distributor duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement .
  8. Connect the audio system. Refer to Radio Replacement .

    9. Object Number: 588991 Size: SH
  9. Install the instrument panel lower trim.

    10. Object Number: 229889 Size: SH
  10. Install the assist handle.
  11. Install the assist handle bolts.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
