Check that the vehicle speed sensor buffer is correctly calibrated for the axle ratio and the tire size.

  1. Connect a scan tool in order to monitor the vehicle speed.
  2. Drive the vehicle over a known distance:
  3. • Maintain a distance of 8 km (5 mi) or more.
    • Maintain a speed of 80-110 km/h (50-65 mph), if practical.
  4. Using a scan tool, compare the indicated speed to the speedometer indication.
  5. Record the following specifications:
  6. • The initial odometer reading
    • The final odometer reading
    • The actual distance driven

While at the specified speed, are the scan tool and the speedometer readings within 6 km/h (4 mph) of each other?

Divide the actual distance driven by the distance driven as indicated by the odometer.

Is the indicated ratio within the specified range?

0.96-1.04

System OK

Go to Step 4

Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
