Circuit Description

The travel switch opens if the actuator movement is excessive while the park brake is being applied. An open travel switch indicates the park brake is out of adjustment.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The PBCM detects an open travel switch when the parking brake is fully applied.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The SERVICE PARK BRAKE indicator turns ON.
    • Electro-hydraulic park brake function may be disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present and you use the procedure specified in Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Clearing .

Diagnostic Aids

Thoroughly inspect connections or circuitry that may cause an intermittent malfunction. Refer to the following:

    •  Testing for Electrical Intermittents
    •  Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections
    •  Wiring Repairs
    •  Connector Repairs

Check the park brake for proper adjustment. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .

Is adjustment within specifications?

  1. Disconnect and remove the park brake linkage travel switch from the actuator.
  2. Use a DMM in order to measure the resistance across the brake linkage travel switch.

Is the resistance more than the stated value?

1 ohms

Replace the park brake linkage travel switch. Refer to Park Brake Travel Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .

Use a DMM in order to test the service park brake indicator supply voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Use a DMM in order to test the ground circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the park brake control module. Refer to Park Brake Control Module Replacement

Is the repair complete?

  1. Reconnect all the connectors.
  2. Clear DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Clearing
  3. Operate the park brake.
  4. Verify that no DTCs reset. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying .
