Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement .
- Install the engine on an approved engine stand.
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Remove the oil pan. Use a putty knife in order to separate the oil pan from the engine block.
- Remove the oil pan rear oil seal.
- Clean the sealing surfaces of the oil pan and the engine block.
Installation Procedure
- Apply a 2 mm (1/8-in) diameter bead of an approved RTV sealer to the oil pan side sealing flanges.
- Apply an approved RTV sealer to the oil pan surface that contacts the engine front cover.
- Install a new oil pan rear seal. Apply a small amount of RTV sealer or equivalent to the oil pan rear seal ears.
- Install the oil pan.
- Install the oil pan nuts.
- Install the oil pan bolts.
- Remove the engine from the engine stand.
- Install the engine into the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement .
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
