Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 4045  Size: SH
  3. Remove the rocker arm nut, rocker arm with balls and pushrods.
  4. Place the parts in a rack so that they can be reinstalled in their original locations.

Installation Procedure

    Important: 

       • Make sure to keep parts in order. Parts must be put back from where they were removed.
       • If only a pushrod is to be replaced, loosen the valve rocker arm nut and rotate the valve rocker arm out of the way to replace the pushrod.
       • Inspect the valve rocker arms and the pushrods for excessive wear. Replace if necessary.

  1. Apply engine oil to the valve rocker arms and valve rocker arm ball bearing surfaces.

  2. Object Number: 4047  Size: SH

    Important:  Make sure that the valve pushrods seat in the valve lifter sockets. Engine damage could occur.

  3. Install the valve pushrods.

  4. Object Number: 4045  Size: SH
  5. Install the parts in the following order:
  6. 3.1. The valve rocker arms
    3.2. The valve rocker arm balls
    3.3. The valve rocker arm nuts

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Tighten the bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
