Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 23523-F Crankshaft Balancer Remover and Installer


    Object Number: 4059  Size: SH
  1. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  2. Remove the water pump. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.

  3. Object Number: 11485  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wire.

  5. Object Number: 4068  Size: SH
  6. Remove the engine front cover.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean all sealing surfaces on the engine block and oil pan.
  2. Notice: Once the engine front cover is removed, do not reuse it. Always install a new engine front cover. Oil leakage could result.


    Object Number: 4068  Size: SH
  3. Install a new engine front cover.
  4. Install the engine front cover bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Connect the crankshaft position sensor wire.
  7. Install the water pump. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.

  9. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
